Die isländische Sammelhandschrift AM 132 fol., die sogenannte Möðruvallabók, enthält 200 Pergamentblätter, auf denen die Njáls saga, Egils saga, Finnboga saga, Bandamanna saga, Kormáks saga, Víga-Glúms saga, Droplaugarsona saga, Ölkofra saga, Hallfreðar saga, Laxdoela saga und der Anfang der Fóstbroeðra saga tradiert sind. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Codices aus dem isländischen Spätmittelalter beinhaltet die Möðruvallabók ausschließlich die Textgattung der Isländersagas. Neben der Frage nach der Logik der Zusammenstellung werden in dieser Arbeit die einzelnen Sagatexte unter dem Aspekt des erzählten Wissens analysiert. Die Darstellung vergangener Wirklichkeit bedeutet in den Sagas nicht nur eine Reihung von Fakten, vielmehr ist es die Spannung zwischen narrativer Stilisierung und dem Anspruch auf historische Faktizität, welche die spezifische Erzählform der Sagas geprägt hat.
