Es dämmert. Der Fischer Tjark Taddings will gerade die Netze zu Wasser lassen, doch dann bemerkt er ein Boot, das ohne Licht etwa eine Seemeile entfernt ankert. Er ergreift sein Fernglas und richtet den Blick darauf. Schon will er sich wieder abwenden, als er sieht, wie jemand eine Last von Bord wirft. Dann fährt das Boot ohne Licht davon. Tjark beschleicht ein mulmiges Gefühl, doch noch ahnt er nicht, dass er gerade Zeuge eines grausamen Verbrechens geworden ist. (Description from external book data)
