Vol. 1 includes discussion on the influence of Nazi propaganda in Austria after 1936, when a cultural agreement with Germany was signed. An unofficial boycott of Jewish publishers in the book trade began; some publications were confiscated by the authorities. Pp. 393-417 describe the liquidation of Jewish publishing companies after the Anschluss in 1938 and their transfer to Aryan hands.
