Description
Fates and Furies, a novel acclaimed by NPR, New York Times, and given multiple accolades by news outlets, is a tale that delves into the marriage of a seemingly happy couple. The envy of everyone they know; on the outside, it seems perfect. The narration is a spectacularly written dichotomy of Lotto and Mathilde Satterwhite, where each individual has a perspective that can be compared as night and day. The lives of Lotto and Mathilde before marriage were both drastically different, with Lotto shiningly happy and prosperous, and Mathilde s one of grief, secrecy, and malevolence. The moral of the story tells us that not everything is what it seems, even to those involved. There is a role reversal in which Mathilde acts as a condescending, shielding wife with an agenda unknown to Lotto. Revenge is on the menu for this woman, and the story essentially suggests that a marriage so happy and pure is only that of one woman s scheming. One can be quite the outsider of their own marriage, given the challenge of an individual to be secretive and unyielding. Fates and Furies will shock you at every turn. There is no mystery too small, and no revelation too large. By the end of the novel, nothing will be as happy and blissful as they originally seemed, and the tale of Lotto and Mathilde will be one that shocks. It is certainly a book that cannot be underestimated, and is sure to burn its image into the minds of the unprepared. It is a must-read for bibliophiles and casual readers alike!
