Sport hat seit dem Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts in Österreich eine enorme gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Bedeutung. Die damit verbundenen Werte und Normen werden primär bildhaft vermittelt. Daher nimmt dieser Band zentrale Images und Topoi der Bewegungskultur in den Fokus. Durch starke Emotionen haben sich viele dieser Bilder in die kollektive Erinnerung des Landes eingeschrieben. Das Buch beleuchtet ihre aktuelle und vergangenheitspolitische Bedeutung, die immer wieder aufs Neue verhandelt werden muss. Thus, this volume focuses on central images and topoi of sports. Due to their strong emotions these images have found their way into the collective memory of the country.
