Jahrhundert kein dem kontinentalen vergleichbares Rittertum und auch keine äquivalente höfische Literatur gegeben hat, wird anhand literatur- und wissenssoziologischer Fragestellung das Werk Chaucers auf die Verarbeitung und Präsentation des Konflikts der höfisch-ritterlichen mit einer konkurrierenden pragmatischen Sinnwelt untersucht.
